fieldsites

I began research among Aka forest foragers and Ngandu horticulturalists in the Central African Republic in 2008. A civil war broke out late in 2012 that has continued to date. Things are calming (see recent news here) and I hope to return in the next few years.
In 2014, I began conducting research among Sidama agropastoralists in Southwestern Ethiopia. I currently work in a peri-urban village located near Hawassa in the Sidama National Regional State, but am in the process of adding two additional fieldsites in the highlands.

I also work with high school students in several counties in Alabama, including Tuscaloosa, Jefferson, Pickens, Dallas, Hale, and Greene. The projects in these locations center examine the effects of out-of-school activities (e.g., football, flag football, performing arts) on adolescent well-being and life history outcomes.
